Hydro Excavation & Potholing FAQ

Common questions about hydro excavation & potholing in Alexandria, VA.

Hydro excavation uses pressurized water to break up soil and a high-volume vacuum to remove the debris, exposing buried utilities without mechanical tools. Unlike traditional digging, it eliminates the risk of striking underground pipes, cables, or conduits—making it the safest method for utility exposure work.

Potholing is recommended any time you need to verify the exact location and depth of buried utilities before excavation, construction, or repair work. It's especially valuable in tight or congested utility corridors where mechanical digging poses a high strike risk.

Tommy and John at AllGreen Landscape did an incredible job of designing a new driveway and entrance to our house, as well is helping us find a great pool contractor and doing all the landscaping around it and a new patio. I especially appreciate the fact that their crew has been with them for more than a decade, and they are all great guys. The whole team has worked with us closely to keep it all maintained and looking beautiful.

I’m so incredibly grateful for the breathtaking work AllGreen Solutions did for us and cannot say enough wonderful things about them. They transformed my yard from an overgrown eyesore into a beautiful oasis beyond what I imagined. The crew was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and truly listened to what I wanted. They worked nonstop and paid attention to every detail. I could not be happier with the results and highly recommend them! Thank you AllGreen!

In Sep 2019 AllGreen removed the old timber stair/walkway in my back yard and rebuilt it with a lovely stone structure. The workmanship was outstanding -- from the careful excavation to the reinforced concrete foundation to the carefully finished stone work. Every aspect of the project was handled well -- timely scheduling, thorough cleanup each day, prompt removal of all debris, to careful raking, grading, and seeding at the end. Project Manager Kyle Jansen and foreman Carlos could not have been better to work with or more willing to be helpful. I am extremely pleased!

John Waldron came out to look at our walkway and tree. It turns out the walkway was worse off than we thought. John very carefully explained the problems and possible solutions, providing us with several options. I enjoyed working with him very much. The quote was reasonable, but higher than we planned for the extra things we wanted done. We plan to have the work
