Expert Bioretention Facilities & Rain Garden Installation in Alexandria, VA

AllGreen Solutions Stormwater Management designs and installs bioretention facilities and rain gardens for residential, commercial, and mixed-use properties across Alexandria, VA. These bowl-shaped, planted systems capture runoff from roofs, driveways, and paved surfaces. Water filters through layered soil media and native plants before it can reach local waterways like Four Mile Run, Cameron Run, or the Potomac River. Alexandria sits within the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area, which means properties here face stricter stormwater requirements under the City's Virginia Erosion and Stormwater Management Program. A properly installed bioretention system helps properties meet those local BMP standards. It can also qualify your property for a Stormwater Utility Fee credit through the City of Alexandria. We assess your site's drainage area, soil conditions, and grading before recommending a system sized to your runoff load. Rain gardens suit single-family homes and townhouses. Larger engineered bioretention cells fit commercial sites or projects with higher impervious cover. Contact AllGreen Solutions to schedule a site assessment in Alexandria.

Bioretention Facilities & Rain Garden Installation FAQ

Common questions about bioretention facilities & rain garden installation in Alexandria, VA.

If your Alexandria property has significant impervious cover or recurring drainage issues, a bioretention system is a practical fix. Properties undergoing development or redevelopment in Alexandria may also be required to install a stormwater BMP under the City's VESMP regulations.

A rain garden is a simpler, residential-scale planted depression suited for single-family homes and townhouses in Alexandria. A bioretention facility is an engineered system with specific soil media depth, underdrain configuration, and plant criteria used in regulatory and commercial contexts.

Yes, the City of Alexandria offers Stormwater Utility Fee credits for qualifying rain gardens and bioretention filters on residential and non-residential properties. AllGreen Solutions can help you determine whether your installed system meets the City's credit criteria.

A site assessment checks soil infiltration rates and grading before any system is sized or designed. In areas of Alexandria where infiltration rates are too low, an underdrain can return filtered water to the storm drain system instead.

No, a correctly designed system drains ponded water before mosquito reproduction can occur. AllGreen Solutions sizes and grades each system so standing water clears properly after rain events.

Annual inspections are the baseline requirement for bioretention systems in Alexandria under Virginia DEQ standards. Routine tasks include checking for erosion, clearing inlet debris, replacing dead vegetation, and confirming the system drains correctly after storms.

In Sep 2019 AllGreen removed the old timber stair/walkway in my back yard and rebuilt it with a lovely stone structure. The workmanship was outstanding -- from the careful excavation to the reinforced concrete foundation to the carefully finished stone work. Every aspect of the project was handled well -- timely scheduling, thorough cleanup each day, prompt removal of all debris, to careful raking, grading, and seeding at the end. Project Manager Kyle Jansen and foreman Carlos could not have been better to work with or more willing to be helpful. I am extremely pleased!

John Waldron came out to look at our walkway and tree. It turns out the walkway was worse off than we thought. John very carefully explained the problems and possible solutions, providing us with several options. I enjoyed working with him very much. The quote was reasonable, but higher than we planned for the extra things we wanted done. We plan to have the work
